Who can claim?

Workers Compensation covers all University employees for work related injuries and conditions that are substantially caused or aggravated by their employment at the University. This applies to full time, part time and casual employees, as defined by the Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998.

How to claim workers compensation

To make a Workers Compensation claim, the injured employee will need to:

  • Consult your general practitioner who becomes your听Nominating Treating Doctor听for the purposes of medical management of your injury.
  • Obtain a听State Insurance Regulatory Authority, Certificate of Capacity/Certificate of Fitness听from your nominated treating Doctor. Please ensure that you sign the Worker Declaration form of the Certificate of Capacity. If this section is not signed by you, the certificate will be deemed invalid.

  • It is essential, however that the Worker's signature be provided in the required declarations on Page 4.

The other work related injuries claim form will be required for completion if you have:

  • an injury received while on the daily or other periodic journey between the worker's place of abode and place of employment, or between the place of abode and any trade, technical or their training school, where there is a real and substantial connenction between the employment and the accident
  • an injury received while on a journey between the worker's place of abode and other places referred to in section 3 (c) - (g) of the听Workers Compensation Act 1987, where there is a real and substantial connection between the employment and the accident
  • an injury received while on a journey between the worker's place of employment and other places referred to in section 3 (c) - (g) of the听Workers Compensation Act 1987
  • an injury while away from work during an ordinary recess and for an injury involving a motor vehicle accident in the course of employment
  • Workers who are injured in motor vehicle accidents while travelling between their workplace and home may be entitled to compensation under the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Scheme.听 Information on CTP entitlements is available on the听.
